Good evening, Juan C. Blanco, Invent-Tech’s Director of Product Licensing, checking in with a Wednesday evening update with a headline that speaks volumes! As alluded to in the title of this post, we received photos today from the licensee of the DotComs, a previously licensed Invent-Tech product that we most recently reported on in an October 4th entry (”Previously licensed Invent-Tech product expanding its presence in major grocery and retail chains…“), that feature the delicious chocolate candy on display at both Wal-Mart and Kroger, a large regional grocery store chain.

Invent-Tech had been been made aware of the presence of this product in both of these retail giants a few weeks ago, but we chose to keep the names of these two successful chains confidential until we had some visual account of the actual product selling in the stores themselves.

The licensee has done a remarkable job of successfully obtaining vendor status with Wal-Mart specifically for this product, certainly no small feat by any stretch of the imagination. Remarkably, one of the Wal-Mart locations that the DotComs is featured in is also one of the most prominent in their entire portfolio–a “supercenter” store in Marion, Illinois, near the licensee’s home office.

Additionally, the product is also doing well at 160 Kroger’s locations throught the United States. As a point of reference, Kroger, which is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio and also operates stores under other banners regionally such as Ralph’s, Smith’s Food and Drug Stores, and Dillon’s to name a few, garnered sales of 60.6 billion dollars during the fiscal year 2005 according to their official website.

Invent-Tech is certainly proud to have been associated with helping to license a product that is now selling on the shelves of two of the most profitable retail conglomerates in the world. Congratulations are certainly in order for all involved in making what was once just a concept submitted to Invent-Tech on paper into a tangible and saleable product!

[…] Additionally, we also spoke today to the licensee of the DotComs, the snack food accessory that we have reported on in this space numerous times, most recently on October 25th (”Previously licensed Invent-Tech product selling in Wal-Mart and Kroger food stores…“). As we detailed in that momentous posting, the product was already selling in some Wal-Mart stores in Illinois, as well as many Krogers locations throughout several states. According to the latest information from the licensee, they have now expanded the product’s presence to additional Krogers locations, as well as two major gas station chains, Citgo and Hess. We have also been informed that there are ongoing negotiations with another major retail conglomerate to begin carrying the product in select locations on a regional basis. […]

[…] Invent-Tech has also attempted to shed light on the sometimes nebulous post-licensing phase by providing the latest updates on the trials and tribulations that our licensed products experience as they strive to reach the consumer market. We have been especially proud to also report on the successes these inventions have achieved, such as our memorable October 25, 2006 entry that celebrated the placement of the previously licensed Dot Coms on the shelves of two of the largest retail conglomerates in the world (”Previously licensed Invent-Tech product selling in Wal-Mart and Kroger food stores…“). Additionally, we have notified our readers each time that a licensed Invent-Tech inventor product idea has achieved a notable intellectual property milestone at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, such as patent pending status.
