Insight into Invent-Tech’s first service—the Invention Research Portfolio
March 20th, 2006
Greetings from Invent-Tech’s Sr. Technical Writer. This entry is the first in a series of posts that will give readers insight into Invent-Tech’s services over the next few weeks. One of the first services an Invent-Tech client receives is an Invention Research Portfolio, which compiles the details about their product and highlights considerations for future development of the project. The portfolio’s purpose is two-fold: it helps an inventor judge the invention’s potential, and it provides a professional tool when presenting an invention to investors or manufacturers.
Although parts of an IRP naturally contain information that relates to inventors and their inventions in a general sense, ours is far from the boiler-plate document full of useless information that industry critics often allege. As the employees responsible for creating the portfolio can attest, a great deal of work goes into this valuable tool.
The team behind the document includes market researchers, technical writers, drafters and registered patent attorneys. The researchers are responsible for exploring and preparing objective economic and industry data related to the industry that the invention falls under. The writers present the specific product details and pursuant issues for manufacturing and marketing, while the artist portrays the invention visually. Finally, the registered patent attorney provides a Preliminary General Field-of-Art Search for similar or otherwise relevant patented products.
These professionals’ work combines into an informative portfolio that an inventor can use to make critical decisions about their invention¹s future potential. The information presented gives an inventor a sense of the market for their invention and its scope, so they can make the most informed decisions possible. Given the amount of work that goes into creating each individual inventor¹s research portfolio, Invent-Tech places great faith in the efficacy of compiling and presenting the information in this format.
